• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm just doing some research and was just wondering about Nextel's P2T cell. Does it use CDMA,TDMA or other? What is used for dispatch consoles?
I know this is a touchy subject as most of the forums I have read, people don't think to highly about nextel.

It used iDEN, which is a proprietary TDMA format.

Dispatch consoles are typically control stations.

I find every forum has its own favorite "Whipping Boy"!

Also surprised that N_Jay didn't point out- Nextel is NOT cellular, it is a Nationwide Trunked SMR using Motorola iDen digital in most locations with one or two EDACS Analog sites and one or two Motorola Type I sites. The analog sites are getting rarer as they are upgraded to the iDen type.

Does Nextel market the Analog service under the Nextel name?

(I would be surprised if they did).

And I didn't bother because it;
1) was not part of the question
2) giving people way more of an answer than they asked for often adds to the confusion.

So don't be "surprised"

LOL,.. and as to the marketing.. back when they first set up thier analog systems here in MS, yepper they advertised it under thier name. It was part of the old original Nextel Business Solutions program.. back before they really became a PITA! Of course that was also before the digital age of communications really caught on. (Mid 1980's thru mid 1990's)

And it's not possible to get on these 800/900Mhz analog systems anyhow as NexTel is just buying them to shut them down and convert the users (if any) to their lousy, expensive digitzed service.

Do you mean "FleetCall"

Nextel did not become Nextel until 1993

DO NOT PASS the Consensus Plan -- FCC WT Docket #02-55
Commissioner Kathleen Q. Abernathy
Federal Communications Commission

Washington, DC 20554

Dear Commissioner Abernathy,
The Consensus Plan is totally the wrong thing to do!!!
If this plan is approved it will the down slide of Public Safty communication as we know
it.

John Walsh should stick to finding missing people. Not promoting a half baked plan that
was created as a Nextel business decision.
DO NOT PASS THIS PLAN

Dear Commissioner Abernathy,

Emergency response communications have never been more critical, or more difficult.
Why can't you folks put Antennas: 2 under the cell phone repeater and and one on
top.Connecting all three,
Broadcasting Antennas for police bands Broadcasting Point out in a funle to the ground.
Putting a Direct line of Direct communication under all repeater.
Essentially making a three-dimensional net under all cell towers.
