Just curious if anybody knows with the upgrade to the NextGen system was might be locked down and what will continue to stay open. I know this system is fairly wide open and not sure SD area is huge about the big E

K6CDO said that it is optional for encryption and not like Orange County.

Asked and answered. No gross changes planned. Individual agencies may add encryption, but it will not be a system-wide thing.

Listening to all the testing and talk today...on Site 41 south, my WS1098 has not missed a beat once in TDMA or FDMA decode and voice intelligibility.

Don, can you confirm if the current south site has all the transmitters simulcast locations active? I am curious if the amazing LSM performance I am experiencing is what I should expect when the system goes live for end users. My TRX still chokes on the NextGen and SD City 700...how sad...but nice that my remote scanner array can be fully updated from Pro-197's for $350 a scanner instead of $700!

Yes, yesterday the system had all South Cell sites online. Today, it is down one site (Point Loma).

I am still having ZED luck in being able to so much as receive the NextGen West or North sites, much less hear anything. I get -50dBm and 0 error rate (-40dBm on South I can see the tower) on my 4G LTE antenna attached to my SDS200 on the current RCS North site control channel 854.8125. Are all the transmitter locations that will be transmitting, up on the air, and are they aimed where they will be aimed at for future use, or are we in a "work in progres" time for the West and North site locations? I am concerned I will not be able to receive north county any longer.

I monitored yesterday’s testing and was able to receive all sites well from North County. Voice quality was great once I applied the Invert filter on the SDS200. Looking forward to more activity!

I heard lots of activity with moving cables around and resetting of switches, routers, and gateways yesterday morning. The techs were at various locations around the county: San Marcos, Carlsbad, Coronado, and National City. I heard them on the North cell. I receive the west cell CC pretty well (~ -60dBm) but I was hearing the techs on North every-time I noticed. My location is close to the harbor, pretty much around the corner from the Abbey site.

Remote SDS200s at the transmitter site for the West cell, Paul. As far as the new North, I don't think you will have coverage, Does the station have an ENG remote at Woodson or Palomar?

I can get full bars on my 996's on 41, 43, 44, and 45 (CC's), but only 41 is able to decode and display the system and site (CC lock) from my stations parking lot. 42...not a blip of signal bars.

Is the West site signal propogation (footprint) finalized for the most part?

I just heard a short conversation between a couple techs and this time it was on the West cell so it appears I hear both north and west cells like I suspected.

I just heard a conversation on TG 1177. I'm guessing it to be Vista Unified School District Transportation 1 1(VSD TRANS 1). They were chatting about busses. I forgot to note the site, it was North or West.

I have picked up active traffic on the West Simulcast Site here in San Marcos. TGs # 1177, 1183, 1185, 1205, 1207, 1209, 1217, 1223, 3001. Have not listened as such, just searched on ARC - XT Pro and it logged these. They bounce between NFM and P25. There are also a whole bunch of 5 number TGs (20000s) that also bounce from NFM to P25.

Interesting, Gene! Wonder if there was any voice associated with these...hmmm....

Yes there is audio associated with the Vista School Bus talkgroups, the Radio Techs and some of the 20000 type talkgroups, all on the West and North Simulcast Sites. I did not realize that all of the talkgroup numbers will have to change.

Yes, I’ve been listening and logging the talkgroups this week. I’m monitoring the West simulcast. Brian did all the work of converting the talkgroup numbers, bless his heart. All we have to do is follow along!
