We all know about the coach to quarterback helmet comms used in the NFL. This year the NFL leveled the playing field by doing the same for the defense. A selected defensive player will receive coach to defense helmet comms. Here are some of the rules;

- Only one player with a helmet receiver is allowed on the field at a time, one offense (quarterback), one defense (usually a linebacker or safety).
- Receiver equipped helmets are marked with a green dot on the back of the helmet so officials can easily identify the designated player.
- The helmet comms are disabled when 15 seconds is reached on the play clock.

It is my understanding that these comms are encrypted. What frequencies are used?

The first NFL link, below, is the best info. The USA today article is also good, if there is an accuracy issue, please consider the source (non-radio personnel don't always translate the technical aspects properly);

Wouldn't they need to be encrypted to keep the other team from listening in?
it said in one of the articles that there is somthing with military grade encryption and costs $28,000 for the teams headsets
and theres a trunk that holds all the radio equipment, and its off limits to just about everyone

The Same frequency that the QB uses is used by the Defense. Based on monitoring over the Pre-Season and reports from others who monitor other teams, the system has two DCS tones.
a.) QB Radio
b.) Defense radio

Yes, they are encrypted. Transcrypt using the rolloing Code, if you find it, you will hear the typical Speech inversion [Donald Duck] with a Synch Pulse[Click click click] as it changes the Codes.

If you are near the Stadium search the 451-453 Mhz, and 461-465 Mhz at 12.5 Khz splits.

Post your findings, even tho they are encrypted post your observations.
New England Patriots 464.9375 Mhz D-245 QB and D-731 Defense
Philadelphia Eagles 461.4875 Mhz D-311 QB and D-606 Defense

With the Season starting up, how about folks seach the UHF Bands near the stadiums and post back the QB/Def freqs/tones. :)

I knew that there were previous threads on NFL and other leagues, I did a search and came up with a couple of pages. Just an FYI. Good Scanniin Hoser

Here we go Again

Because it is in the Monitorable Spectrum that I CHOOSE to listen to, and SEARCH and SHARE the information with OTHERS.

The DELETE key is a functioning key on your computer. :D

Why do people listen to the Local Police, Fire, EMS, Marine , Aero, FED's, Military, Taxi Cabs, Schools, School Bus's, Local Media, Business's, Malls etc

Out of curiousity - why does it matter what frequencies they use?

No need to act like a jerk. I asked why people get excited about posting unlistenable communications frequencies. No big deal. If that's what keeps you up at night and helps you get out of bed in the morning - so be it. I'm not passing any judgment.

If your day isn't complete without listening to McDonald's drive thru - go ahead and do it. Not my cup of tea, but if that's what keeps you going when times get tough then tune it in and listen to "Big Mac biggie sized"

Now who is actiing like the Jerk

I think you need to cut back on the Caffine

Why do people post Encrypted Federal Agency frequencies? Because it's there and the art of finding NEW frequencies is a novel and unique idea that FEW people undertake.

But then , you just wanted to pad your posting count.

We now return you to the NFL brought to you my Motorola and Mhz ! and look forward to others sharing what they find by SEARCHING

Uhh, you. I asked why people post those frequencies. Pretty simple question if you think about it.

Why do people post Encrypted Federal Agency frequencies?

No idea. Makes no sense to me, but if that's why you think you're here then go right ahead and do it.

Why? How about because you can actually hear intelligible human speech on those frequencies, as opposed to encrypted gibberish on these NFL frequencies. Do you sit around listening to trunked system control channels in FM mode, also? Do the buzzing noises fascinate you?

As rdale said, no need to get overly defensive with your reply. He posed a legitimate question, wondering why anyone would spend time hunting down frequencies that they can't listen to anyways.

Who knows, maybe the "Water Boy" will forget to turn on the encryption switch, and it will all be in the clear at some point... It's a human world, and it could happen. I am so happy to still have hearing, I'll listen to almost anything :) Used to fuss at my oldest daughter for constantly talking... She developed mouth cancer, and died. Now I don't fuss at anyone for talking. Same with these radios, if it's there, and it makes noise, listen to it. If not, either delete the Posts, or turn the radio off. With all the digital stuff these days, not being able to easily listen to them here, I can tune in McD's, and get some idea of how long I'll have to wait in the drive thru to get my Over caffeinated drink...

rdale,

It's very nice to see other members sharing like ecps92 on this forum/Scanner radio websites. Posting what they hear in their city.

1.) Some people do listen to the control channel sound. So they can tell what type of system it is. When they search the band in a new area!

2.) Some people like ecps92 & others like to fill in blanks spots in their band chart.
To see what freqs are being used in that city/county/state. Then write down where Fed P25enc,MotoTRBO,NEXEDGE,etc is being used in their city.

It was nice of ecps92 to post what he found at the football game. Then post it on this topic for us to read. So others can search for it too!

Wait a minute ... wasn't that a Boston Patriots v Houston Oilers game?

p.s. I kind of like to know what they're using, even if I can't listen to it.
