True newbie here! I recently dug out an old scanner (RadioShack Pro-89) and started playing around with it. Despite the limited offerings I have with this scanner, I've been enjoying myself. The frequency database on this site often mentions NFM, which I understand has a different deviation than FM. My question is - can I pick up an NFM frequency on my near-obsolete Pro89? Thanks so much!

Yes. You may not be able to program the exact frequency, but the scanner should round up to the nearest freq it can receive, and the signal may be slightly weaker than if you had a NFM scanner.
