NHP Las Vegas

By reading some of the articles posted on this site plus others The NHP are obviosly moving to the 800Mhz Statewide Edacs system at least in Reno, So what is the status in Las Vegas are they still using the 150 Mhz trunked system or are they on 800 Mhz. Ma Com?

I was sorely disappointed that I had only the EDACS system in my 96 when I was out there 3 weeks ago on vacation. I was on the 38th floor at the Aladdin, and I couldn't get any workable control channel for the 800 system.

The VHF system was loud and clear, but I couldn't put that system in without the use of a computer due to the multi-table for the base/offsets.

Eh, Clark County, Metro, & the casinos were more than enough to listen to anyway!

The EDACS system in the L.V. area is operational at times.
That's when it works.
I was there this week and it seems to be as bad as the EDACS here in the Reno area.
100% of junk is still junk!!!!!!!!!!!!

i did confirm that the VHF system was in use during my stay 16-20 june...

the CC was loud and clear in my room at MGM...


too bad i don't know enuf about e-craps trunking (or Etrunker for that matter) - and i need to brush up on LTR as well - there's just not enuf of that stuff where i live to hone my skills.

So the Highway Patrol is using both VHF and the 800 MHz system in Las Vegas? If that's true, then I'll program both sets of frequencies into my Pro-64 analog scanner. I'll also program the frequencies for the Clark County public saftey system.

My parents and I plan to go to Las Vegas this spring. I hope my analog scanner can track the trunked radio systems.

At the present time NHP in Southern Nevada is on the 800 MHz EDACS system but the VHF high band system still serves as backup. It is noteworthy that the EDACS system has not failed NHP since it was last turned on in early November. I have found the best source for frequency information for the system and just about anything else in Southern Nevada is a book entitled Southern Nevada Radio Scanner Directory which according to the publisher comes out as a new edition every four to six months. The most recent edition has a cover date of December 2004 but mine included an update sheet dated 01-01-2005. It can be found at either Radio World in Boulder City, NV (702)-294-2666 or at Amateur Electronic Supply (800) 634-6227. Both businesses send it mail order with Radio World being less expensive. It also has all the talk groups for trunking systems that you are probably looking for and to me it is the "bible" for scanner radio listeners in Southern Nevada. Fifty one pages of information is noted in it along with maps, radio codes, and more.

Thanks for the information. I'll program both the VHF and 800 MHz trunked frequencies. I hope my portable scanner will pick up the signals in the strip while I'm walking between the tall hotels. I'd imagine that there is a lot of metal and reinforced concrete in Las Vegas. 8)
