hi there are listings for the following niagara county fire channels and i always hear the dispatcher telling the companies to switch to them yet the only time ihave ever heard anything was on the ems air operations channel when mercy flight was trying to contact the landing zone is there a reason for this?

Note The "M" and "R" in the third column. "R" is for repeater. The transmission is re-transmitted with more power and antenna height, dispatch for example. "M" is for mobile. Usually a four watt handheld unit used at fire scenes, which can only be heard if nearby, also known as "simplex".
The reason you heard the chopper was because of their altitude.

ok thank you i never knew that. based on that info aprox. how close would i normally have to be to pick up those transmissions? i do have an antenna mounted on the roof
