Nice tropo tonight!!

Some outstanding band conditions accross the board for scanning. Hearing pretty much the entire eastern half of the state quite easily on VHF and some decent signals on UHF & 800 as well carrying nicely along the lake.. Plenty of Michigan and Illinois in there as well. This is using a scantenna and/or a Comet GP-6 dual band VHF/UHF at 50 feet. Heard some Coast Guard ops on Lake Erie just now as well. Cool stuff...

What are you hearing that you don't normally hear? And how far away,out of range under normal conditions are they?

well, when I hear things like Jackson County, Missouri and Indiana State Police districts on 155.370, I consider conditions to be quite "out of the ordinary"!

Tonight is another perfect example. The tropo on VHF & UHF is phenomenal. Not only is the public safety stuff going wild, but I am hearing simplex ham stations on 2 meters with paths up to 400 miles.

Gotta love September in the midwest if you are into DX. Tis also the season for broadcast AM DX. Night time conditions bring in many great signals accross North America on simple AM radios.
