To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey Guys, I'm trying to program a Kenwood TK-3180 with a channel just for night pages (2-tone fire page). I can't seem to find a way to program the radio so that it requires both the PL and the 2-tone page in order to set off the alarm on the radio and open the squelch. Best I've come up with is turning the audio all the way down and the alarm all the way up so that all radio traffic is quiet but the alarm will sound when the department is paged.. Easy to do on a Motorola HT with the "And/Or" option but I can't find a similar option in the Kenwood software.. Any insight and/or suggestions would be appreciated...

The And/Or you seek in the 3180 lives in the zone edit section as Audio Control. Click the button to open the zone edit window.

unfortunately, it makes the whole zone behave that way! I ended up putting my paging channel in another zone because I had MDC signaling on other channels, which would have been muted otherwise.

By the way, I love it when people explore options. Kudos to you breaking out of the box for answers.
