I just purchased the base antenna from Grove Enterprises. And I must say that this a one of the best antennas I've ever own. My first impression was questionable due to it's small, discreet style. But after installation, my scanner came to life. I can now monitor agencies within a 50 mile radius with ease. Agencies that was once static, is now intelligible and depending on weather, 3 to 4 bars on the S-meter. I've had several base antennas in the past year, in which includes the Scantenna Dipole, The Scanner Beam and the Radio Shack's discone. Out of all, the Scantenna Dipole was the best. But due to it's size, I sold it for a less conspicious antenna. That is why the Niljon was strongly considered and became my lastest antenna of choice. And from it's performance, I am grateful that I chose it. It surprises me daily with the agencies my scanner was once deaf to. So I am proud of it's accomplishments and it has proven to me, to be a well suited, all-band base antenna.

I agree, I have the Base version connected to 50ft. of RG8 on an outside ant. I have it rigged up to 12ft. of old roof rake, thats snow rake, for you southern people. Works great. Up here in the northeast, mtns are kind of a problem, so the marketed "up and out" design of the Super M makes sense to me. I have a RS discone which works ok too, but feel I am getting a better signal from far away places, maybe not as good for the close agencies though, but really hard to tell. Not cheap, but I think well worth it. I think the grade of Coax is probably more important, and if outside, weatherproofness.

Using the Super M Base as well, with 50' LMR 400. Best base antenna I have ever seen. Replaced my Diamond with it.
