Has anyone had any luck monitoring USS Nimitz or associated activity? I saw some F16s circling and military choppers low on the bay yesterday but have family in town and can't be at my scanner.

Would love to hear any success from you guys!

Check for Carrier ATC frequencies in the 225-380 MHz (AM) range. Also each large Navy ship has an on-board EDACS trunking system. Check for unidentified EDACS systems in the 380 MHz-420 MHz (FM) range. It would be a cool opportunity to map out their system, but they are extremely low power systems.

Was I the only one in SF who saw (heard the ominous drone of the engines first..stubbed toe running to window) a C-5 Galaxy Friday afternoon flying low west to the ocean then north along the coast? That is a rare sight around here.

EDACS System On Board

I am picking up an EDACS data channel on 395.3875, it seems to drift in and out here. I did a quick search and plugged in all 14 frequencies from here: http://forums.radioreference.com/mi...-shipboard-edacs-system-san-diego-moment.html. So far, have the following talk groups:

04-022
04-044
04-091
05-006
05-073
14-022

For I-Calls, I have the following: 580, 586, 673, 693, 799, 900, 901, 999, 1106, and 1116.

Since reception has become more sporadic, I forget which talkgroup announces which ferry was approaching or leaving the area with x sailors on board. Some mention of a "OD", "JOD" or "JOOD" prior to the announcement. Also heard a couple of transmissions about preparing for departure in 24 hours time.

I am not sure if it was a C-5 but i know i saw a military cargo transport plane flying near the south Fremont/north Milpitas area sometime on Thursday or Friday last week. Also, a couple weeks ago, I was out fishing off the dubmarton bridge and saw another military cargo transport plane doing what looked like touch and go's off of moffett airport..circled around several times, ducked down out of visible range, and peaked back up....did that multiple times....

Yeah you're in the right area for that-my stepson lived in Mountain View in the early 90s and I loved watching the mil aircraft out of Moffet back then. Maybe you saw the same one I did up here. This one I'm pretty sure came out of Alameda and came west then north. Neat. Them suckers are huge-I think built in the late 60s.
