I just realized that NINN was free. I was wondering if anybody here has any experience with them. Is it active here in the Baltimore area? I know IPN is active, but what about NINN. Any feedback is welcome.

His name would be properly spelled Jim Goetz. He's a fantastic guy, he was a co-instructor for my First Responder class in 2000. Very knowledgeable.

So MFN is the same as NINN? I think MFN costs, but NINN is free. What gives? I'm mainly interested in FD related incidents, but would like the PD side as well.

MFN is well worth the nominal charge of about $12-13 per month....you'll take advantage of 10 different maildrop categories, including Maryland region fire/rescue/police/weather/traffic updates - not to mention the national alerts and national headline news. Quite a nice operation, overall. I've had an MFN pager for over 7 years and am exceedingly pleased.

Just search for the MFN website ( I believe the address is now MFNWEB.com or something to that effect)....you can purchase an alpha pager for around $90 and get the above-mentioned service. Outstanding group of folks running MFN!

Okay, I signed up at NINN for the time being. I figured it was free, so I'd give it shot. Haven't gotten any alerts yet though. What's the diference between MFN and NINN?

I know that the actual MFN mail drops are free. From talking to Jim a long while ago, they stopped charging to put the caps in the pagers. What the $13/mo will get you now is actual pager service. If anyone has a pager on the TSR 929.2125, I can put the caps in your pager in the local area (Columbia). We currently have 7 mail drops, plus a couple state and national drops.

So MFN is free to sign up to recieve alerts via e-mail, but if I want to have their pager service I need to pay. Is this correct?

I haven't talked to Dave about this in a while, but I think the email alerts are still a pay service. However, if you have a alpa pager with or without service on the TSR (Network Services) system you can add the mail drops to the pager and get every call that we send out on that pager. I have a few Advisor Gold pagers that I would let go for cost that are already programmed for MFN drops. I have both the top row and mail drop cap codes for all the MFN drops. I know the NINN alerts are sent by email, but I only get one every now and again in my email.. I am not sure how many pages are sent on MFN but I know on a good day it can be a good amount. I know I personally only send the good incidents from Howard County... I am AV5 just FYI :)
