The ball is rolling in Wanaque(Passaic County) for their transition to NJICS. My friend who is an officer and I were talking tonight at the annual St Francis Carnival; and he said they should be transitioned over by the end of the year. Do not take that for certain, just what he shared with me.
He said all services will move over, PD, Fire, EMS. Unknown how many TG’s of course, or if they will split up PD/EMS response, EMS/Fire Dispatch(and fire response), or separate everything, EMS/Fire comms completely separate. Also unknown if DPW/Water Department, or busses(also on lowband shared with Ringwood) will once again have radios(DPW have not in a few years now; they were using lowband 45.48). I don’t recall ever seeing radios on the water department trucks, even the older ones.
Going to be interesting with the terrain on 7/800 where they currently have decent coverage on UHF; and of course the biggest question, what the actual radios will be(for interops purposes).
Currently, the portables are HT1250 UHF, and the cars have CDM1250’s for UHF, and VHF(Ringwood next door, and SPEN).
I imagine multi-band APX’s if they want to maintain interops.
Let’s start listening in…
