The first eight sites listed on NJICS RR Database all show as Simulcast finishing with New Brunswick; the remaining sites look they stand alone. Does this Simulcast designation indicate more traffic will be carried on these sites. Union County is a heavy user of TG's I'd like to listen to, but New Brunswick is better line of sight from home. If I designated New Brunswick as my primary site, would I be missing fire traffic from Union/Essex County unless one of their radios is connecting to the New Brunswick tower?

Would it make sense to program West Orange, New Brunswick and Union County sites into same system, and let the radio determine strongest signal?

The simulcast cells normally carry more traffic than the standalone sites, as a general rule. Beware that Union County's simulcast cell is a bit of a special case, in which the county makes use of the state's core, but there is not nearly as much cross-site usage as you have with the other cells and sites in the system. In other words, if you want to hear Union County units, make sure that you're scanning the Union County simulcast.

I listen to pretty much exclusively fire; most Union County fire has transitioned, its a bonus hearing New Brunswick also. I can hear many Essex County fire departments on the Union site. When driving north, I'll switch to the West Orange site.

J.....based upon extensive listening as GTR8000 points out, site 7 is very unique. The volume of traffic is extensive and much of that is not duplicated on standalone sites unless of course a sub is permitted and affiliates. The exception is SOME Site 7 traffic appears on West Orange consistently. Site 8 Rutgers carries little of Site 7 traffic. Site 28 Martinsville carries little Site 7 traffic. I once got a call asking about electrical consumption at one of the Site 7 simulcasts as the bill skyrocketed. I believe it.

Oh and if not obvious. Channel resources. The standalone sites simply do not have the number of frequencies required to support a significant amount of TG’s. Trying to avoid system busy’s. I am surprised Site 7 does not max out during thunderstorms and the like.

What site is Med Central primarily affiliated with? I use to hear RWJ ALS and BLS units all the time on stand alone site Holmdel which is the closest site to my location. However; I cannot pick up any RWJ TG's at all. I am able to pick up JFK EMS and Atlantic EMS and they are in T mode. When I travel down the GSP and cut across I-195 West towards Bordentown/Hamilton I know for a fact that RWJ covers Millstone, Hamilton area, etc. However not hearing a thing on the radio. Do we know if they went Encrypted full time? Are they 100 % Phase 2 now and not even cross-linking with their Phase I older radio's in the fleet? I must be missing something because they were very strong up until the end of Summer 2019 on my radio with no problem. I even have the New Brunswick site in the radio. Nada!!!

I have the Uniden Trunktracker IV BCD-396XT. I know that is not Phase II, but I was able to pick them up at one time. Do you know what might of happened and why I am not able to listen any longer. What type of radio do you use. I certainly can do the non-affliation scan method on an xts-2500 700/800 radio if that would help?

They were probably Phase I when they first switched over before upgrading their radios,I use BCD536HP. I would stick to a newer scanner like the SDS 100 and 200 or even a Unication pager.

What happened? They started using TDMA, and the XT models are not capable of TDMA. Your XTS 2500 is also not capable of TDMA.
