When Union County used the EDACS system the database listed Sheriff TGIDs for K9, Courthouse Security and Fugitive Squad for example. None of those descriptions appear in the database now that Union County switched to NJICS. Did these talk groups just go away? I don't see any unlisted TGIDs show up when I scan the system even though ID search is on.

When the county made the switch over they eliminated many talk groups that were being under utilized.

I got a submission today stating the EDACS system is now phased-out. Can anyone else in the area confirm that the control channel is off-line?

I just need one more person to confirm before I depreciate the EDACS system.

The EDACS system is off line. The equipment has been removed from the sites.

436 and Union County

I've had my 436 for about 3 weeks now. I am not completely happy with the way it handles the Union County Simulcast on the NJICS. The quality of the transmissions is a bit more inconsistent than I thought it would be. When I monitor the other NJICS P25 sites the audio is consistently very good but a lot of times the Union County stuff becomes garbled. I am trying to understand the whole P25 decode threshold and mode stuff. Right now I have it set to Manual with a threshold of 8 or sometimes 9. Maybe it's wishful thinking but it appears that it is a bit better than when I had it on Auto.

I look at the ERR rate and at times it will be 0 or 1 and then other times it's in the 20s or even higher. Is this just the way it is or is more tweaking needed? I have a RS 800Mhz antenna and get full bars.

It was actually shut down New Years Day. The frequencies have been integrated into the NJICS Union County SIte to allow for the increase in users over the next 16 months.

Sounds like Westfield will be switching over to NJICS within the next few months.
Thank you your suggestion TAC-1. I have created one FL with Union County on the UC Simulcast and another FL for UC on the WO Simulcast. I don't get many transmissions at all on the WO site compared to the UC site. So funny that I am in Linden and the Linden site is worse than Elizabeth, Roselle or UCPD.. Oh well, maybe it will improve as time goes on.

I getting about 95% of all coms on the Wo Stie in linden (W henry and Dewiit area) vs 50% from UC used to get 99% copy from UC site before they added the 800mhz freqs also make sure squelch is set at lowest level

i live in basking ridge...

the Union Co site was 10% signal, before the change.
the west orange site was 100% signal before the change.

now: Union co is 100% ,
West orange 0 signal.

major changes, I think the watchung site that worked with west orange got converted over to Union co

any thoughts?

4497 is CSX Rail Line
You mean csx police?

Also just an update on Linden joining. They have the 1.5 6000's and they absolutely hate them. Audio quality is garbage, not a surprise.

The reason Westfield is moving over is because of the t-band shutdown scare that many in the professional world still doubt to happen. It seems moto or someone sunk their teeth in and convinced Westfield to take the leap.

Besides the market scams, it also has to do quite a bit with the direction the County OEM and PD want to head. They want all of Union County to be a common system (the ICS) to allow for simplifying interops, and so that they can sink their claws to a certain extent into municipal communications. Both factors, thus far, are working.

Personally I like the idea. It works for most states, and us being such a small county in relative speaking...it makes sense to compact it down to a centralized system. But that's just me. I know others who have a visceral reaction to that thought and couldn't enough failure if they tried up on the NJICS.

At least two other municipalities in addition to Westfield will have all/some agencies on it by December.

I know of 3 towns that will not be going any where near that system unless mandated which I doubt will happen.

I don't like it whatsoever. I've been told on multiple occasions how bad the system is by multiple people. Its also unreliable and has failed on multiple occasions that most have probably not heard about yet because mother m doesn't want people to know how terrible P25 TDMA systems are.

As you can tell I'm a little bitter and don't trust it at all. Most municipalities in the county don't need this system. An analog smartzone system for the county like Somerset did wouldve been better. They were given the chance in the 80's or 90's to do that and shot it down. Relying on a county system is one thing, but the state system is so out there to get support its just brutal...

there was a recent change ... the watchung transmitter/receiver , that was associated with the west orange site , now appears to be associated with the union county site. So, most of the union county traffic now goes through the union county site, and not west orange, on a full time basis.

That does make sense to have the Johnson Drive site aligned with the Union simulcast for better western coverage of the county.

When I had service work in Watchung prior to the change, that was the best place to hear W.O. via a handheld, because there was almost 0% chance of simulcast distortion.
