Does the NJSP make DWI Checkpoints? If they do, what talkgroups do they operate on? With the upcoming new year's eve I noticed that some agencies are making DWI checkpoints, I was wondering if NJSP does them too.

Also, I am yet to hear an unmarked trooper make a stop. I know that unmarked trooper's unit # would be from 1000. Do they operate directly on their COMM tg or a diff one?

Thanks, and have a safe New Year's!

NJSP use unmarked units only on the GSP and Turnpike and also for detectives. From time to time the marked units do DWI checkpoints but they pick up most fo their DWI's with regular traffic stops.

Not true. NJSP uses unmarked units including a couple unmarked SUV's at all Troop Barracks not just TPK and GSP and are driven by uniformed Troopers.

The identify themselves just as they would if they were in a marked car.

NJSP uses unmarked troop cars on I-295 from Bellmawr barracks all the time. Unit 1223 is the primary unmarked unit from bellmawr. Its out there all the time, an unmarked dark blue crown vic with a uniformed trooper driving. They operate on the same channel as the rest of the units from the same barracks.

As for the DUI check points, call the news channels and ask, they usually get the calls from the police to publicise them. The locals will be out, you can count on that. At least around here.

NJSP does not perform stationary DWI checkpoints at this time. They do have DWI overtime patrols that work out of various stations. These patrols are mobile and are making car stops just as the regular patrols do.

Most troop "B" stations also have unmarked cars that are used by uniformed troopers working aggressive driver patrols. The unmarked cars have 4 digit car numbers, as opposed to the 3 digit cars numbers for the marked Crown Victoria's. The marked SUV's that most stations have may have a 3 digit car number or a 4 character unit number such as 115A. 115A would be heard on the radio as "115 Alpha". The aggressive driver patrols operate on the same channel as the regular patrols for each of the respective stations.
