I have been picking up the following talkgroups on the NJ TRS for a few days. Does anyone know who they might be? They aren't listed in th RR database or anywhere else I looked.

These are coming in the NJ State Police Trunked System. I get over 100 tg's but these numbers do not correspond to anything I have.

Please list the talkgroups that you can't identify here and we'll begin helping to address them. Since there are loads of them on the NJSP system. its kind of hard to help without some specifics. Here is also a great source that you may wish to try. Always complete and up to date. John Buricelli is da man!

The Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System, commonly referred to as CTCSS, has been in used in the land mobile radio arena from the late 1960’s. It is known by a number of different trade names such as Private Line® (PL) by Motorola, Channel Guard® (CG) by General Electric and generically as tone squelch.

It is a use of sub-audible tones that are transmitted along with the speech portion of the transmission which allows more than one agency (or fleet) to use the same radio frequency without causing undue interference to another agency on the that frequency. Receivers for agency XYZ are set to only open their audio squelch when the proper sub-audible frequency tone is part of the transmission

To set it up on Pro-96 first go to the frequency you want to put it on in program mode and then press MODE until CT: C-Search shows on the screen, now if you know the PL press FUNC then MODE and put it in.

Thanks for the kind words on my PDF's.

I run Unitrunker on B-Troop 24/7 and I haven't seen any of those talkgroups show up. When I had MikeA running it on C-Troop for me, about 7 16xxx talkgroups showed up.

There are quite a number of talkgroups out there that aren't in use, or are probably slated for future use. (Many are in my pdf, but I can post all the ones I have found if anyone is interested).

CSQ (Continuous Squelch) means there is no PL or DPL for the frequency.
"Continuous" is the first C in CTCSS, which is the generic term for the proprietary PL.

CSQ is short for carrier squelch, which means that any carrier (transmission) which is received on that frequency will break the squelch if it is strong enough. It won't matter whether the carrier has PL or DPL on it, any receiver set to CSQ will still hear them.
