The NLon Subbase Fire Dept is on UHF P25 Trunked, but is there a conventional channel I am unaware of?

More than once I have seen Navy Subbase EMS crews with Minitor pagers. Anyone know if these are for a subbase conventional dispatch channel? Or are these possibly Groton pagers?

Ova here
They do have two VHF frequencies that they used to use before going over to the DOD 300 MHz trunked system. The frequencies were 140.22500 (CSQ) and 142.20000 (103.5) which was the dispatch channel. I believe 142.0000 is still utilized as a "tone out" and link to Groton Fire Alarm for mutual aid. I am uncertain though.

The frequencies are under the federal section of Connecticut in the database.

Izzy

I hadn't heard anything on 142.200 for a long time, maybe its just low power for tone out now. Thanks.

In the past I've heard one side clear and the other encrypted. Can't remember if it was dispatch or the mobiles.
Now everything is in the clear which is news to me.

You usually need to be right at the base usually to hear the mobiles/portables. That may be the issue?

Navy PD is on the TRS, however I know here in Niantic I often only here one side of the conversation. I can often here both sides close to the base.

I'm trying to figure out if the base has some conventional dispatch I'm missing or if they have pagers from GFA.

I ran into that with the FD a few months ago during an on base hazmat. Command and dispatch clear as day but no fireground chatter.

I just got confused because I have never heard encryption used on the DoD system

Well it's a repeater trunked system is it not? I've never heard of having to be near a portable to be able to pick it up if it's repeated. I live in Griswold and in the past what I was hearing was encrypted communications for sure. Now both sides of the transmissions are in the clear.

Some firefighters belong to outside volunteer departments and may wear their pagers at work. They also may have VHF pagers to hear GFA page them. Ever since they went to the 300 mhz system I only hear them on VHF talking to GFA.

Thanks Bob

I figured some were in other FDs, was just curious if they were using some conventional dispatch, as I thought it was no longer in use.

By the way, I am in Niantic as well.
