No Control Channel/Signal vs. Simulcast

If I were to try and determine of I was not getting audio on a digital simulcast system, how might I know if it's because of signal strength or because of simulcast issues? What I see often are the strength bars jumping from 3-4 to none every 1/2 second or so? What would create that?

If after seeing the "no bars" then going back to 3-4 bars, what you are seeing is a normal condition. Upman has described this as the scanner "doing some internal housekeeping."

Are you sure what you are trying to monitor is a simulcast system? (I looked at the VIPER system, and the site for your area does not appear to be a simulcast site).

What model scanner and are you talking about the VIPER system?
