It looks like the Minneapolis Police Department is going to be disbanded. The Minneapolis City Council has already voted and approved it! So what's going to happen to the Minneapolis PD Talk Groups? Will the new system--whatever it is, even be able to be monitored?

Any thoughts?

There are several hoops that must be cleared if that notion proceeds. One is modifying the city charter which is something the voters must approve.

Just saying, but about three summers ago, there was a hue and cry for more police due to shootings and other crimes in the warehouse district. Even just a year ago, there was a proposal to add more police in the budget.

Folks up in Minneapolis are angry and you know what they say about making decisions when you are angry. I do agree that there are a lot of opportunities for improvement, however.

Since no one here has answered the question and has already given their political views. Don't worry about the talk groups, they will more than likely stay the same and so will PD. You can't just not have law enforcement without major issues if it actually happens to where PD is no longer an agency in Minneapolis then the talk groups may be restructured or renamed.

A lot of Minneapolis cops have quit or taken early retirement. The news has reported that the City Council is moving forward with disbanding the police force. Now the Truckers have chimed in saying they will NOT deliver goods to any city that disbands it's police!

There will always be something like a police force in Minneapolis. And they will probably use the same com system.

(chuckling under my breath)
