Does this scanner have a fuse inside, or a reverse protection diode? I assume this unit uses surface mount. Thinking about purchasing this scanner as is, no lights, no power

Yes. I pulled the trigger on one. Hard to pass up for $95. Guess that schematic would be a real help. It has been my past experience that no power issues with mobile equipment is usually caused by connecting the power leads in reverse. I hoping this is the case with these.
Supposed to get mine tomorrow. Did you test it at all, or just returning it?
That is exactly what I figured. Someone hooked them up reversed. Common problem with mobiles. Saw it w lot when I was a CB tech.
WoW!!!!No idea what the power connector is, I guess you could take it to RS and try it on their connector "cat o' nine tails"
Easiest way if you don't have a connector is to apply 12 volts through an alligator clip on the anode of the input diode (near the DC jack on the inside). Ground is the chassis.
I just put the one I got back in the mail, will be interested to see if it shows up on the bay again.
I'm not too eaten up about it, I did just buy three NIB Pro-652s yesterday for $80 each.![]()
Sounds like you made out like a bandit![]()
