I posted that question over on Airshowbuzz.com. I had also emailed the Aerospace America as well as Tinker public affairs. I never did hear back from Tinker however did hear back from Aerospace America and the told the reason that was posted over on the airshow buzz forum about the economy.

Tinker had shows for years before Aerospace America was started by Tom Jones then Tinker went in with them to help them on the military side and Aerospace America handled the civilian performers. Tom Jones was killed in a accident while performing at Aerospace America. His wife Kathy took it over for awhile and continued with the success of the show that Tom had started. Rumor is she was eventually forced out. The show continued to be successful for years after however not as successful as when Tom or Kathy was running the show.

Aerospace America took a big fall when they started re-doing the runaways at Will Rogers and they moved the show to Clarence E Paige airport. They also lost the Oklahoma All Sports Association as sponsers either right before that or soon after. When the show moved to Clarence E Paige they never had the attendence and coupled with a rain out either one or two years cannot remember the show took a big finanicail hit. The attempted to bring the show back once maintaince at Will Rogers was completed however the show never recovered.

Then Aerospace America teamed with Tinker as Team Tinker decided to put us back on the airshow map. Likely the economy is not all the reason we also did not get a jet team for the first time in years.

To keep this radio related I believe the old airboss frequency was 131.2000 have it written down somewhere around here.

LOL. Very slick, and that's awesome that you remembered. It's too bad we HAVE to remember that sometimes.

I actully Logged(not really logged as much as listened to) 12 different Freqs on the Airband during that last airshow, it was very busy.

Is Tinker Capable of hosting there own Airshow? I just can't see missing the commentary of the guy who is the radio host, I forget his name but I always enjoyed it.

Man its a bummer.

They do host their own show but to take some of the work off Tinker Aerospace America handles the civilian acts while Tinker handles the military aspect of the show. Since it was hard for them to get Will Rogers as well as having difficulty getting the airspace for jet team demos the show is better suited at Tinker AFB.

The commentator you are talking about is KXY's Dan Stroud. He is a big airshow buff. I always enjoy him as well. He has done other shows heard him at the Vance AFB airshow before. If you are willing to drive a little way there are some shows in Kansas, Texas and Lousiana. Barksdale is having a big show rumor was the Blue Angels, Snowbirds and a foreign demo team this year. I have been to the Barksdale shows they are pretty good just a long drive. Been to Alliance Airshow in Ft Worth thats a good show as well as the Joint Naval Airshow thats in Ft Worth been to that as well. Next year Altus should have a show. Vance has them if they can get a jet team and hopefully Tinker will resume next year. If you want to catch a show you are going to have drive a little way this year.

Tinker had the Blue Angels in 2007, then the Thunderbirds in 2008. Without being repetitive, who could they get? I remember the Golden Knights or some other group being the Aerospace attraction, but what good is that to a flying theme?

I would like to see the Snowbirds here. The last time they was here was 1994 I believe for Aerospace America as they pushed the show back from the annual Fathers Day weekend to July to accomdate the Snowbirds team. They also could bring in one of the foriegn teams as well such as the Red Arrows or the various other jet demo teams. I have found that alot of times a show happening depends on getting the Blues or Thunderbirds they are the two most requested teams however the Snowbirds put on a great show having seen them perform twice once here in OKC the other time up in Kansas.

Just hope next year is better for the avaition buffs around Oklahoma!!!!!
