If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I think I have pretty well gotten a handle on the grip on the KPNG programming software for Kenwood NX-5000.

2 final questions:

1. In scan mode, how do I make it revert to chosen-channel where the rotary switch indicates?

2. Ive set up a bank with all NOAA alerts and want it to scan and break the audio at 1050Hz on the frequency that alerts.

Thank you so very much in advance!

Ok. I've got scan issued resolved. I created NOAA in scan mode. Now I just need to figure out how to silence until alert of 1050HZ open up the channel

Interesting subject... So if I am understanding your posts correctly you were able to get the radio to behave like one of those NOAA weather radios that use the "S.A.M.E." alert codes for specific types of weather conditions and cities and counties, is that correct? If yes, I have to say that I was not aware that a commercial radio was capable of supporting/decoding "S.A.M.E." code functionality, let alone opening the squelch when the 'attention' tone is received... Does the squelch close back up when they send the 'end' tone, like they do every Wednesday for their weekly test?

It wouldn't be the same code, it would be utilizing the 1050hz tone only.

This is not going to work as you were hoping, the radio is going to get hung up on the first channel since it gas a constant carrier.

If you set up the channel with the paging function, set both tones to 1000Hz, it'll work. It'll be muted until it hears the tone, then open for the amount of time that is set. It's very similar to setting up a channel with 2 tone paging, just make both A and B tones the same.

Yes, but it is not going to scan all the weather channels for the tones. It's going to receive the one, with the speaker muted and then unmute that channel when the tone comes through.

Correct, when it receives the 1005hz tone, it'll decode for as long as you set it to, up to 300 seconds, or reset time to "off".

The OP would need to have it start scanning again.

But to act as a simple weather alert receiver, it'll do the trick.
