If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can someone tell me the step-by-step directions on how to program the NOAA frequencies on the G5/VHF. I've read that other members were able to do this successfully using the long tone 1050. I haven't been able to get it to work and I'm missing something. I'm hoping someone whos successfully programed theirs could help me. I'd like to cross check what i've already programmed. Thanks.

You do know that the pager will just have to sit on the weather frequency, and you won't be able use it for monitoring. anything else on an trunked systems.

Kind of waste of the pager just monitor a weather frequency.

I do have these frequencies. in my G5, but only just to monitor when go to that zone.

Yes it would be a huge waste if that was the ONLY thing I was using it for. 95%+ I’m on the 700/800mhz, I figured I have VHF then why not. I’d like to use it to alert me of severe weather when I’m not home or on vacation. Obviously the downside is you can’t do VHF and 700/800 together at the same time.

So far I entered the “channels” in to the G5. I have one set up to scan all the NWS frequencies and another where I can manually select the channel. I’m just trying to figure out where in the PPS I put in the 1050 tone to trigger the pager.

You have to set up a 2-tone paging system with the 1050 tone, and assign that system to the NWS frequencies. Don’t have PPS handy at the moment else I’d give you the step-by-step.

I thought about using the 1050 tone so the pager would alert, but I don’t want to get alerted every time a mouse burps in any one of about ten counties. Using the FIPS code in my weather alert radio is much better.

Update: adding the 2-tone protocol is under tab C. https://www.unicationusa.com/_files/ugd/9bbbf0_7118b145436e4a8ea49908f00070f911.pdf
