The FCC accepted the Land Mobile Communications Council's proposal to license "non-standard frequency pairs" in the 450-470 MHz band on 12.5 kHz channels.
The name is misleading. The pairs remain 5 MHz splits. Instead, this allows a 12.5 kHz center frequency with a 4K00 emission 3.125 kHz below it, and another 4K00 emission 3.125 kHz above it, effectively providing two 4K00 voicepaths with 6.25 kHz in between them within a 12.5 kHz channelspace. ULS can accommodate this, but it's not certain how.
This will only be allowed for trunked systems with FB8/MO8 exclusivity, and, per the FCC's DA 12-10 will not be allowed for conventional, T-Band, or 6.25 kHz offset frequencies. This will also not be allowed on VHF.
At this point in time, only NXDN systems can do this 4 kHz narrow bandwidth.
