Noobie here, need advice on which scanner to buy!

Hi guys,

I am new here (I was reffered by somebody on a radar detector forum) and have for a while been debating the purchase of a scanner. Ideally I would like something that I could have in my car for the most part, but could still opperate in a home as well.

I was looking at the Uniden BCT-8 because of it's Highway Patrol detection and trunking, but I can't seem to figure out if the unit handles the new digital system that from what I read is in the process of being implimented by IL law enforcement agencies.

Any guidance you can offer would be much appreciated, I want to spend as little as possible, but don't want a total piece of garbage.

The Base/moble radios that are digital are BC796D, and PRO-2096, Handheld are BC296D, BCD396T and PRO-96. THe BC8T will not do digital. See the WIKI Reference for more info.

well it would be good to know what area you are scanning. and just remeber, the bct 8 is not a radar detector. uniden states that. Also i have the 2051. it's a bct8 in radioshack clothing and i get so many false readings using it that i am counting down the days until i buy the 2055 and intall that in my car instead of the 2051

I know, I have a Valentine 1 that I use as my radar detector, I'm just looking to add to the arsenal while fueling a long-time interest of mine.
