Hi forum.
I'm new around here.
Was wondering what the opinions are here about the Nooelec Nano3 on performance and convenience, compared to other USB/dongle models.

My application is simply to use with SDRTouch on a smartphone. I have a Nano2+ and just looking for a better experience. I find the Nano2+ to not be very sensitive.

The reported extreme heat from the Nano3 sounds like a pain. If there is another comparable USB/dongle type under $100 I would appreciate recommendations 🙏

We use numerous nano 3's across several computers at several remote sites. Far better to manage than the standard size dongles. The USB connection doesn't loosen up nearly as fast and you don't have to worry about the dongles being jostled loose if the machine or USB hub gets bumped. They still get hot, in fact a little bit warmer than the standard dongles, but still manageable. The size makes them better for mounting inside PC cases or equipment enclosures. I always run ours for awhile to "burn them in" and then make any adjustments to the frequency calibration. I have yet to notice any significant drift. The one thing I did notice is that some nano 3's mysteriously stop working during the "burn in" period. But since I purchase through Amazon, I just return em and get new ones.

Edit: The metal case and included heatsink make heat dissipation very effective.

Thanks for the reply. Went ahead and ordered one. I suppose as long as I don't burn myself from it's heat I should be good ✌️😎

I haven't owned a Nano 3, but had a previous version. It has problems with heat dissipation hence it only lasted a few months in a 24/7 application. Perhaps the newer version has addressed the problem.

My application will be just on smartphone for occasional playing around... so I guess as long as I don't scorch skin, I should be ok 😎

I run a couple dozen servers with over half of them running multiple nano 3s (anywhere from 4 to 8). They get hot, but as long as there is half decent airflow in the area they run fine. Only issues I've had was trying to place them inside a mini PC case that was very small and cramped. A mid tower case works fine.
