When I set my new scanner up sometime ago, I included the Racom network and a few talkgroups for Life Flight, StarCare and for giggles, some of the Norfolk and Seward talkgroups associated with Racom. I should mention that I live in Lincoln, and never thought I'd get any Norfolk traffic.
However, on one occasion I did hear traffic from Norfolk system on the Lincoln Racom tower and quickly associated it with Norfolk PD from the nature of the calls, ie., parking complaints near the school and a domestic in progress. This was the only time I ever copied Norfolk traffic, and considered it a fluke or propogation perhaps. It didn't matter, I was amazed that I picked up traffic. The talkgroup used was 04-003 listed under Madison county in the Racom db.
Today however, I am again monitoring traffic on the Racom network on the same talkgroup, but have identified the traffic as belonging to Madison county sheriff's office. I determined this from hearing "Southeast deputy calling dispatch," and the extensive use of 10-codes. Looking at the database the MCSO talkgroup is 03-065, and I have never heard traffic on it. All this is leaving me scratching my head wondering if there have been changes or what?
And just now, on the same talkgroup, 04-003 I am hearing what sounds like animal control calls, a skunk and three dogs running at large.
Anyone else hearing this in Lincoln? Norfolk? Anywhere?
Anyone have any ideas what might be going on? The traffic is so clear with just a slight hiss, this from a scanner sitting in a basement near 27th and Highway 2, with a RatShack mag mount multiband antenna mounted on a metal filing cabinet. I sit here looking at my setup, with a grin and thinking to myself "wtf... ?"
