I have the Uniden 396XT, the handheld digital scanner. I have it on P25, but don't see where the "auto" comes in to play. Also, I have the control channels programmed in that are on the RR website, but when I scan the Norfolk system it says "finding control channel", like it can't find it.

Evidently you're not hearing the control channel very well. You may need some antenna improvements. Make sure you didn't accidentally put the attenuator on (been there, done that)

I bought a Watson WSMA-801 antenna to replace the standard one that came with it. I'm at a loss now... I get all the cities on the southside and even N.N. and Hampton, Norfolk and V.B. are the only ones I'm having issues with.

Would like to hear some answers also. I used to hear Chesapeake, but not anymore. Never could hear Norfolk.

Wirelessly posted (SAMSUNG-SGH-T459/T459UVIA1 NetFront/3.4 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

csb230- Are you SURE you have the correct frequencies entered. Not the same as the old analog freqs.

bep- As mikext said, Chesapeake rebanded a few of their freqs last year. Check the db. You may also have to enter custom tables. I believe the custom tables are in the db as well. If not, you can find them on my website (link in signature).

Thanks, I do believe I checked, but will check again. I have Saturday morning to myself, so that will give me unpresidented uninterrupted time to research the issues.

Do you have a cable and software to program your scanner? If so perhaps you can download the programming of your scanner and post it and someone could look it over to see if they see anything wrong. That would likely be a lot quicker than just continuing to ask for ideas on this forum.

John, I do have that, however not sure how to post my programing. I downloaded the norfolk system again straight from the RR database into my scanner using the ARC-XT software. I didnt change anything to the programing, just left it just like they have it currently in the database and still nothing. im not sure they have the CC's right due to me not even hearing anything while just scanning the CC's they have posted for Norfolk.

I went on a lil road trip yesterday, I did notice with my pro 106 and just using the rubber duck antenna Norfolk,Chesapeake were hard to recieve past Hilltop and at the north end of the beach now, STARS came in sporadiac, but when I hooked my scanner to my mobile antenna (Bmax1000) mounted on my jeep they came in very well.

I was on Seaboard Rd Saturday evening and was getting Norfolk just fine in the car on external antenna.
