Normal Charging,..How long?

How long should the Normal Charging indication be on before it switches to "charge complete" for the supplied BCD396T batteries ni-mh I notice the manual said 14 hours , so I assume this is a slow chrge from the radio ,but Im pretty sure Ive had it going that long , with the radio mostly off , Is it because the batteries supplied are high capacity & taking longer ?
is it because the radio is not correctly detecting the state of the batteries ?
is it because the radio chrging uses a timer , that had been interupted when I stopped charging to check some things ?
they get pretty warm so I dont wanna leave em on charge forever , if for some reason its not gonna complete

It's been explained that the charging is timer-based and any interruption of the timer resets it. I take that to mean that if the scanner is in use at all while charging, you'll never see the "Complete" message.
