Was listening to the good ol OKC DPS site yesterday and heard their two comm techs talking back and forth about radio programming. Seems that there have been some issues as they are reprogramming their portables. I am assuming that they would not be making a mass reprogramming unless they are migrating.

The conversation took place on the "NORMN PD" link TG. Their traffic was the only traffic that I heard on that TG. The normal PD traffic was not present. Seems that if there was traffic on this TG that it would be on the normal link. The fact that the link did not seem to be there made me suspect that something was possibly changing within DPS architecture.

I also saw that I picked up about 100 new radio ID's in the last week or two.

No concrete info just some pieces of info that led me to believe that the migration was being prepared.

FS,
The news of Norman switching to the state 800 is kind of old. I thought most of you OKC guys knew they were switching. I have been listening to the radio techs quite often as well and everytime I do I hear them working on the City of Norman radio site doing tests etc. It will be really nice when all is said and done. Last time I checked I think they were trying to have a multiple site same channel system including the sites of Norman, OKC, and Edmond. Keep us updated on what you hear. Thanks...

With the first OU home game this Saturday in Norman, I would think they were doing some final preps to make sure the Norman PD link was active and ready to go for all of the game day radio traffic and hopefully interoperability (the famous "I" word).

If it is all working fine there should be some very interesting radio traffic that could be heard around the state this Saturday. Like P.J. said: "Keep us updated on what you hear."

Well the conversation was about why the dog catchers and the public works guys radios are now scanning when that wasn't an option before. Didn't sound too OU related.

Yeah I know it is old news, but so far it's been just that...news. These are some of the first external signs of the impending migration.

Rugby contest? Cricket?

There have been hints all summer. No actual visible action, but lots of hints.

Rumors, too, of an issue with the tower out here by Lake Thunderbird (Norman has a site colocated with DPS site 25 on the Sarkeys Energy Center and another north of the west end of the lake).

I've got unitrunker running on the city system today, and now that I remembered that there's some sort of sporting contest today (rugby is it?), I'll let it run and see if anything new pops up.

Anyone able to run it against DPS sites today?

How are you listening to the techs in The City from Tulsa? Do travel down there a lot or do you know something I don't (the later being the greater likelihood).

Switchover seems to have started on 49136. They seem to have referred to this TG as "3E". Dispatcher just told officers that their handhelds would probably be out of range. Technicians are on TELEC B.

Chaos,
The City of Tulsa Techs have done all the upgrades and intalls through out the state. You can hear them at work on Telecom Channel B through out the sites that they affiliate with to talk to Norman or whatever site they might be working at. That's how our guys here in Tulsa can talk to the techs in doing the installs in Norman. That's the beauty of smartzone trunking. The good news is that we here in Tulsa can hear all the traffic since they are talking back to the Tulsa office into the Tulsa site. Here is a list you might plug in to your scanners to keep up with the new upgrades and sites. Be aware though that most of the time they work is 8-5 M-F but sometimes earlier and sometimes later depending on their work load. Enjoy...

36688 Telecom A
39568 Telecom B
39600 Telecom C
12336 Telecom Astro C (Digital)

I am also hearing the radio techs on these TGs doing testing even at 4:49 A.M. in between normal radio traffic. Looks like it will be a big day for the radio techs and Norman and it's transition to the State DPS. I'll post more as I hear it here in Tulsa.

Listening to the techs on 39568 Telecom B doing test tones on the consoles at 5:01 I hope some of you OKC/Norman guys are hearing all this because I am going to bed for now. Enjoy...
