Would I get any use out of the PRO-433 scanner in north county San Diego? I heard that Encinitas/Oceanside/Carlsbad/Vista etc... are all digital but this scanner is not... But would I be able to get any use from it? Would I hear stuff from other neighboring non-digital frequencies? Could I get weather/traffic report? This would be my first scanner by the way so please don't blow me away with technical jargon haha. Thanks for your response!

Yes that is a good scanner to use for now since you are new at scanning!
once you know you like it. Then you can buy a 2nd scanner(Digital) and listen to the police dispatch/digital talkgroups etc.
in about 5 years you will have more scanner's sitting on the desk! ;)

With this scanner you can scan all the 'Analog' talkgroup's on the county system.
Just look for the 'A' on each talkgroup listing. (Any talkgroups 16 - 30000 range is analog)
Like NorthCom fire, Mutual Aid Fire/Law Talkgroup's etc.
In about year 2012/2013 That scanner will no longer work once the RCS is upgraded.
RCS - http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=499

San Diego City System - All Police/Fire talkgroup's will work on that scanner!
They still use Analog voice (Talkgroups)

And Cal Fire(CDF) VHF will work too!

You asked for traffic report! Hear it live from Cal walker!
450.7125 CTCSS 136.5 - Calwalker Freeway Taffic Reporter.

Just look around the Database on RadioReference.com
and this past week someone (kind of ask the same question) on the local ScanDiego.com forum

Thanks for the advice/help. I decided to try it out because there's a 30 day return policy over at the store. If I don't like it, I could always return.

If you want to see where I'm at right now, I made this thread for help. I just busted this thing out and started messing with it for the first time.
