The new OPP system is now on-line in Timmins but not yet put into full use. Just a matter of time now. Techs put system on-line last week and were using SIM 11.

actually Mike, I got the whole system channels when they were testing them... 1 Control Channel and 3 others; all 142 - 143 Mhz. range
Yup, that would be them. Just need somebody up there with trunker or Treport.

If you've brought the slicer to an outside point so you can run Treport or Trunker.
Treport will give you the site alias which was a big help in identifying sites in Zone 2.

Hello my name is Kaarlo and I am from Chapleau and I am a new user to this site. I was just wondering a few things. Would anyone happen to know what the frequencies are for the OPP's new radio system in Timmins is, cuz I usually listen to them when I go there, and would like to know, so I can continue on listening to them. Is it just the OPP that is changing or is the City Police department, Fire and Ambulance changing to in Timmins. I guess they would be changing the OPP radio's here to in Chapleau. Would anyone know when they will be doing that. Would they be changing the fire and ambulance radio system's here in Chapleau to. If they are, would anyone know when. Let me know. Thanks.

It's fairly early in the organization of those sites, so you'll have to sit tight for a while for any new OPP freq's. This will give you time to secure a digital scanner, (if you don't have one already).
Your local police and fire won't change, but eventually Ambulance will join
the same system that the OPP is on.

Ok, so for right now, the OPP still uses there same old NOR channels or freauencies in Timmins until when ever they change. When they do change would I still be able to pick them up with my Radio Shack Pro 2045 scanner that I have when I go there, or are they going to be using different frequencies altogether, that, my scanner cannot pick up anymore. Let me know. Thanks. And thank you for that welcome greeting onto this site.

I just did the drive from the Soo to Ottawa on highway 17 today. Here's what I caught (all frequencies are approximate):
In the Soo area, there was a control channel on 142.515 (+/-). There was also some digital traffic on 142.830.
In the Elliot Lake area, there was a control channel on 142.260.
In the Sudbury area, there was a control channel on 142.720.
In North Bay, I heard an ambulance talking to a med. facility on 148.525. No control channels heard.
In Mattawa, I caught a control channel on 142.960. The old system was still in use in this area.

Marie, Ontario Local Police, cuz the last time I was there, I happened to lookout my hotel room window, and saw the one cruiser stop a guy, and when he did, I tried to find the frequency or frequencies that they use, but couldn't find anything. If someone could tell me, I would appreciate it. So when I go back there, I will be able to hear them. One more thing, would anyone know the frequencies for the Wawa Local Police to. Let me know. Thanks.

Like you, I hunted for the Soo PD while I was there as well. I heard nothing that sounded remotely police-like on any 14X MHz freq. In fact, about the only PD-type traffic I heard was on 165.5125.

The OPP have not switched over and will not switch over anytime soon.
The frequencies that dvdbir posted are part of the BMR Fleetnet system which the OPP/MOH/MTO/MNR/etc will switch over to at some point.
Timmins police would still be on their regular frequencies (whatever those are).

That's all I wanted to know. thanks Mike. Now I am wondering if any of u's know any good freq's for Sudbury like (Sudbury Police, Fire, Ambulance, OPP) cuz I don't remember any from when I was there last time, which was a year or more ago maybe. So if you can tell me I would really appreciate it alot for the next time I go there. Thanks.

I have not seen any other SmartZone systems on the RR database that have site aliases listed. Has anyone seen one?
One funny case was "Marathon" abbreviated MARTHN which is NOT the Marathon in Northern Ont., but a small village to the west of Ottawa. Also, ELGIN is the downtown Ottawa site on Elgin St. (funny, they could have used OTTAWA which is six letters). I guess they have their reasons.
