The Johns Creek Fire feed has been changed to North Fulton County Fire.

This will broadcast Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Milton and Mountain Park Fire departments. It also has Alpha Tags so that you can see who is broadcasting.

Great to hear. Wish we had one limited to Roswell still, since that's my primary concern, but this is great.

Are they planning to encrypt the north fulton system? I am considering a scanner for phase II but dont want to spend the money if it ends up getting encrypted.

Nobody really knows but then again Gwinnett County recently encrypted there fire channels which is out of the norm. All depends on how upset North Fulton gets  and they start screaming officer safety.

This was mentioned in an earlier thread. A very reliable source has mentioned that in the future when the older legacy phase 1 XTS/XTL radios are replaced, that encryption will be utilized on most LAW talkgroups. Fire and EMS was not mentioned. Time frame mentioned was the next 12-18 months.

As others have said just as with Gwinnett county's recent encryption of fire communications, you never know when "scanner silence" may commence. Encryption is a mouse click away (DSP based) on modern digital radio systems. The same source mentioned that new phase 2 APX radios would be equipped with both hardware based AES-256 and software (DSP) ADP encryption.

There are no guarantees.

Enjoy listening to anything in North Fulton now. It's ALL (PD, Fire, EMS, etc.) going to be encrypted. Johns Creek will not be due to the fact that they are will be on the new digital, Phase 1, unencrypted South Fulton system. I promise you. This will occur within the next 12-18 months.

The new South Fulton system will have 16 sites with coverage to Forsyth GA (home of the State Fire Academy, north of Macon). I don't recall what the coverage area will be up north.

And your source is...

Oh really?

The new South Fulton system will have 16 sites with coverage to Forsyth GA (home of the State Fire Academy, north of Macon). I don't recall what the coverage area will be up north.

There is no "South Fulton" system, it will still be known as the Fulton County 800MHz emergency radio system as it is today. The new core is up and running, phase 2 Astro 25 7.14. Most TGs will be phase 1 at rollout, but eventually all phase 1 gear will be replaced with phase 2 subscriber radios. With 7.14 and DDM, a TG can easily be phase 1 or 2 and dynamically adjust depending on whether or not a phase 1 subscriber affiliates on that TG. Coverage will be the ENTIRE county from Palmetto to Milton.

Kind of silly that the NFRRSA exists when you think about the duplicate coverage footprint.

Coverage to Forsyth? That's pushing it. The south side sites will get into Butts/ClayCo but not that far.
