WEDNESDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A
WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT
THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING.

* TIMING...SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE AREA LATE MONDAY
NIGHT AND BECOME HEAVY ON TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT. SNOW
SHOULD TAPER TO SNOW SHOWERS ON WEDNESDAY WITH SNOW SHOWERS MOST
NUMEROUS OVER NORTHWEST PORTIONS OF THE WATCH AREA. NORTH TO
NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE TUESDAY NIGHT AND
WEDNESDAY... CAUSING BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

* MAIN IMPACT...SNOW WILL CAUSE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS LATE
MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING. BY LATE TUESDAY NIGHT AND
WEDNESDAY...BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW MAY CAUSE WHITEOUTS AND
SOME ROADS IN THE AREA TO BECOME IMPASSABLE.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.


Norhern Indiana Forecast Office expects 6+ inches in the watch area with 3-5 inches likely.

Wow 6 to 9 inches south of a rochester to defiance line and 9 to 12 to the north, get your scanners and 4 wheel drive ready!

* TIMING...ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS
EVENING AND CONTINUE INTO TUESDAY NIGHT. LAKE EFFECT SNOW LIKELY
TO LINGER WELL INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING...ESPECIALLY OVER PORTER
COUNTY. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL OCCUR TUESDAY AFTERNOON INTO
TUESDAY NIGHT...WITH LOCALLY HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW SQUALLS
CONTINUING INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING OVER PORTER COUNTY.

* ACCUMULATIONS...GENERAL STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL OF 6 TO 12 INCHES
IS LIKELY ACROSS THE WARNING AREA. HOWEVER...LOCALLY HEAVIER
SNOWFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED NEAR THE LAKE WITH STORM TOTAL
SNOWFALL POSSIBLY APPROACHING A FOOT AND A HALF OVER NORTHEAST
PORTER COUNTY BY MIDDAY WEDNESDAY.

* HAZARDS...ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL WILL RESULT IN TRAVEL BECOMING
DIFFICULT BY LATE TONIGHT. IN ADDITION TO THE FALLING
SNOW...NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS
TO 40 MPH LATE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING...RESULTING
IN SEVERE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW IN OPEN AREAS. THE POTENTIAL
EXISTS FOR GROUND BLIZZARD AND NEAR WHITE OUT CONDITIONS TO
DEVELOP IN RURAL AREAS LATE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY
MORNING.

* IMPACTS...SNOW IS LIKELY TO RESULT IN DETERIORATING ROAD
CONDITIONS TONIGHT...WITH SNOWFALL LIKELY MAKING TRAVEL VERY
DIFFICULT AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT.
AFTER THE SNOW ENDS TUESDAY NIGHT...BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW
WILL RESULT IN BLIZZARD OR NEAR GROUND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS IN
OUTLYING AREAS MAKING TRAVEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE BLOWING
AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL ALSO MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR ROAD CREWS TO
KEEP ROADS CLEAR OF SNOW.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW IS ISSUED WHEN 8 OR MORE
INCHES OF SNOW IS FORECAST TO OCCUR OVER A 24 HOUR PERIOD. THE
HEAVY SNOW WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP
AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF
AN EMERGENCY.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA HAS ISSUED A
WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS
IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT EST /11 PM CST/ TONIGHT TO 7 PM EST /6 PM
CST/ WEDNESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* TIMING...SNOW IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE AREA OVERNIGHT AND
BECOME HEAVY TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW WILL TAPER TO
SNOW SHOWERS ON WEDNESDAY. NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 15
TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH LATE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO
WEDNESDAY. TOTAL SNOWFALL BY LATE WEDNESDAY SHOULD RANGE FROM 6
TO 10 INCHES...WITH SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER DRIFTS.

* MAIN IMPACT...HEAVY SNOW WILL CAUSE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS
LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY. INCREASING NORTHWEST WINDS
WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW LATE TUESDAY
NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY...RESULTING IN NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WITH
WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES AND SOME IMPASSABLE ROADS IN RURAL
AREAS. TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES AT THE FORT WAYNE AIRPORT AND ON
INTERSTATE 69 AND ROUTES 24 AND 30 WILL CAUSE SIGNIFICANT
DELAYS AND IMPACT TO COMMERCE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS
SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING.
SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL
DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP
AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF
AN EMERGENCY.

NWS Northern Indiana expects 7-12 inches in the warned area with heavier amouunts in far northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.

Starke County has issued a Level 3- Watch according to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

Below is the Indiana Travel Advisory Map issued by the IDHS.
According to the map, Starke County is at the Advisory stage, not Watch.
