I just bought a BC246t and trying to hook up UASD via the serial port connector. It keeps saying can't use any of them.

Anyone know where to set that up com port in Windows XP?

I got that message several times on my PC at work. When I crawled under my desk to take a close look, I could see that the serial port was in a different location than on my previous workstation, and I had hooked up to the wrong port. Fortunately, no one but me knew how stupid I felt. I'd just recommend double checking where you're plugged into on your PC.

Good luck-

Steve

Which version of XP are you on? Home or Professional?
On either, you should be able to go to the control panel.
Select System
Then the Hardware tab
Then select Device Manager
Under the list of devices will be Ports.
One of the ports should be shown as Communications Port (Com 1). If it has an "X" or an exclamation mark on it, then something is wrong with the port or driver. You might be able to uninstall it (right click on the port to get a pop-up menu with this choice) then restart your system & see if Windows will 'find' it again & reinstall the driver.

Mark sure your baud rates match. XP has a setting and the program has a setting. And the scanner has a setting.

In control panel click on SYSTEM icon and then click on the HARDWARE tab, from here click on DEVICE MANAGER button. in this list just past network adapters in the list is PORTS (COM & LPT) Click on the + to expand the ports list and you should see Communications Port (COM 1) and so forth...

You can right click on each and go to properties, and set it accordingly to the correct speed for communication with your scanner...

Or you could just put the software down and just try using your fingers for a few min to get the feel of the radio. :p

Well hiegtx really helpled me out over the phone to get me started, a big thanks goes to him for that.

I have my channels modified now but it really cuts out to the point I can't hear even one conversation. Maybe 2 seconds then it skips or drops and scans to next city.

play with the squelch a little, maybe move it around in the room. My house has aluminum siding. Can you say dead spots?
