Not much radio traffic in NW New York

I would have thought that I would hear alot of radio traffic between aircraft, and airports giving clearances, or any of the other routine traffic you would expect along the flight paths, I hear the scenic helicopters all the time, but even if I put them on temporary avoid, the air traffic around here is very quiet, I live in Niagara Falls, I have the following RCAG aircraft sites programmed in my Uniden BCD436HP: all are Cleveland ARTCC series: Dunkirk, NY; Holland, NY; Wayland, NY; Geneso, NY; and Waterford, PA.

I would have thought I'd hear the aircraft talking to one another over as they fly over Lake Ontario, or the aircraft talking to Toronto - I'm pretty sure I wouldn't hear Toronto replying to them.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Set up a search on the scanner between 119.000 MHz to 137. MHz you will find that there are many frequencies to listen to in your area.

Can also add in some common frequencies

123.025 Helo's
123.45 Misc Chat (I understand it is not supposed to be air to air chat but I hear a good bit on it last time I was in Civil Air listening mode)
122.75 Chat
Might add 121.5 (an Emergency Air Freq. )

You need to be very close to hear the center.. I can only hear the cente4r on one frequency and I have four different centers programmed into my scanner

You should be hearing a lot of traffic in that area. For ATC the following frequencies cover the airspace in the immediate vicinity.

118.500 Niagara Falls (KIAG) Tower (SFC to 3100)
126.150 Buffalo Approach (north, 10000 and below)
126.500 Buffalo Approach (south, 10000 and below)
133.300 Toronto Center Low (FL230 and below)
125.200 Cleveland Center Low (FL270 and below)
128.025 Cleveland Center High (FL280 to FL320)
119.375 Cleveland Center High (FL330 and above)
125.775 Toronto Center High (FL240 to FL300)
134.925 Toronto Center High (FL310 and above)

FL = Flight Level, used for altitudes at and above 18000 feet, eg FL270 = 27000 feet.

Scan those 9 frequencies and you should be hearing nonstop chatter.

Speaking of the MIL AIR band you have a KC-135 Stratotanker
flying at low altitude over the Niagara area right now at 1417 UTC shown on ADS-B Exchange.ADS-B Exchange - track aircraft live

Aside from the Toronto frequencies, I've already got these frequencies, but thanks for confirming them.
