I recently acquired a 4-port automatic serial data switch, labeled as MS-401. I can't figure out who the manufacturer is, and it came without a manual. The serial number sticker says that it was made in Taiwan. It requires 9VAC to operate and its basic functions seem to be OK - the lights come on, I can select the output, etc.

The problem is that this switch prevents communication between my computer and any of my serial devices - scanner programming cables, data slicers, packet modem, or whatever. I suspect that the problem could be solved by following the directions.

If anyone is familiar with this device and knows its secrets - or where I can find a manual for it - please let me know. I've tried searching, asking the used computer parts dealer where I got it, and asking local fellow hams.

That was helpful. Thanks. Now I just need to know how to get it to talk to non-printers. :)

I think I'm going to have to switch search engines. I've been using Alta Vista forever and it no longer seems to be very effective.
