Hello N0FSD.......Is there any way you can give me your Latitude & Longitude location? I would like to input into Upman's Excel file and see what Frequencies are available!...

Anyway you can send me the link to the file? I'm having some problems with DMR too, and it's also difficult trying to reference info from Uniden. Everything seems to be in different places. I must have overlooked this file... I would like to see what else is in my area that I could attempt.

Go to the Uniden link below and find the "EM_Private_Query.zip" file at the bottom of page! Download and Unzip it! At the top of the Excel sheet is a place to put your Latitude and Longitude for your location and also a Range in miles that you can search! I believe this page has all the instructions you need! I use it and the Frequencies and Call Signs were right on the money! Look at the CALLSIGN pages also! That FCC information is very good to know as it gives all information about what the Frequencies are and where they are and the emissions for each!

DMR upgrade not working

I could use some suggestions concerning the DMR upgrade. I have two scanners a 536 and a 436. Both of these are less than six months old. I put the DMR upgrade in both, and both say the feature is active. I found by putting in a range of frequencies used by DMR stations that the scanner is actually stopping on the active frequency but there is no audio. Any suggestions would be appreciated before I send these in for service.

I've done that. The radio is actually stopping on the active DMR station but there is no audio. The display shows the service but not a sound out of the speaker on either radio.

First, I would ask IF you have ever heard audio activity since the upgrade?

Second, I'll comment that I have NO experience with DMR. However, I spent about a week searching facts about DMR and learned that the DMR Repeater transmit constantly on their output and wait for the prober sequence of a station before repeating the input. Therefore, you MAY be receiving the output and NO actual activity happening. I COULD BE WRONG.

I finally backed off of my DMR interest due to lack of overall activity.

Good luck.

If it stops and there is no audio but information is displayed on the screen, you are likely listening to a control channel. Check the DB for your area and look for those systems and input the other freqs on the system.

N0FSD....How many signal bars do you get on display? Can you please find other single frequencies and see if you get audio on them! With all the default audio settings the scanner has, there should definitely be audio coming through! To make it silent you would have to have made a change on accident other than not having volume turned up??..Also, just make sure your display is not showing "ENC" or there will not be sound! It is so very strange that two radios are acting the very same way?????....Thanks

I believe if your too far away to receive a clean signal, the audio won't open. That seems to be my experience. I monitor a town about 15 miles away that picks up on my 436 just fine at night but virtually silent during the day.

My 436 wouldn't stop on anything DMR trunked. I set my squelch to 0 and then got something. Finally, I added a long yagi beam antenna and a preamp on my roof. The system I'm monitoring is pretty far away. The elements above do help in certain situations. Good luck!

^^ that's a nice setup. Good job!

Some tips that might marginally help you with DMR reception assuming you have everything else setup correctly (i.e. programmed properly, DMR update active, etc.).

  • Turn down the squelch, to zero if needed.
  • Don't try to scan an excessive amount of frequencies. Stick to around 200 max.
  • Set the digital threshold to manual and the digital threshold level to 5.
  • Program only high powered or base station frequencies (i.e. the second search on this page Digital Frequency Quick Import)
  • Make sure the configuration is liberal: "Any" color code, all talkgroups, both time slots, etc.
  • You can set the modulation to "FM" as indicated by Uniden; however, I've experienced no problems with it set to "auto."
  • Drive around. Go closer to some of the transmit locations.
  • Use a more appropriate antenna for what you are trying to receive (i.e. the post above this one).
  • The scanner sometimes will stop on data channels and on connect plus control channels. Also, it appears to have problems if the signal is marginal on some (for instance, mine keeps stopping on various utility company frequencies but without ever getting voice out of that system).
Of course, you also want to confirm that the update is active and that you are programming it properly. If you run this search, the results page will give you instructions from programming both conventional and trunked systems: Sentinel Advanced Quick Import

Audio

It is put in conventional as per DMR lookup page. I only see how to add one frequency which is for radio. How do I add more frequencies for a control channel ?
