Everyone has his like and dislikes, but I don't see what you don't like about this one. Uniden took a big step forward with:

-AA batteries, the proprietary packs on current models that take 2 1/2 times as long to charge as they last for run time is a major pain and has been the single biggest reason that I have not bought one of their handhelds

-rapid CTCSS decode

-dynamic banks, YES! now hopefully I can put 20 ID's per scan list instead of 10. Think about it, many Motorola systems have 16 fleets per subfleet, not 10. This has been a major pain in the @$$ with Uniden scanners for me. Now I can put one agency in each scan list and program them with the scan list numbers corresponding to the fleet numbers, and the subfleets in the order. This will make going to any particular channel in the system very quick and easy. Go to 2-M, no problem: manual, 2, 1, 3, manual.

It appears that they have taken a step closer to the "perfect Scanner" we discussed in another thread on this board. Maybe they are reading these boards like GRE has done for some time now. GRE listened to us and, as a result, they produced a very popular scanner. I definitely want one of these even if it is not digital.

Great looking scanner! I would by it if it was all analog here. My question is though, what's better, a 246 or a pro95.

Attention GRE:For the pro 2096, please make it so that I can select a talkgroup by using the "MAN ID position MAN" thing that Uniden has. Flipping through the liID banks is fine while I'm standing still, but not while I'm driving.

does it use Priority Plus feature found in the 296?

if you read some of my postings in the LTR forum, i'm finding a way to instantly track all frequencies in an LTR Passport system using Priority Plus.

basically, you put one Passport freq in per bank and assign it PRI status.

this works for a 10-frequency LTR Passport site (because there are only 10 banks in the 296/785), but not for bigger sites.

if the 246 allows dynamic banks AND has Pri Plus scanning, it would be a quick way of tracking big LTR Passport sites!

with apologies...

the secret function will be;
a) it works most of the time
b) you don't need an extra card
c) a publicity stunt to make people in here want to buy one

Looks great but most agencies around me have started switching to digital and soon there won't be much left to hear on analog except maybe a talkgroup used by the street department or the guys cutting ditch banks. It's close but still not quite the perfect scanner.

Funny. I use direct entry on my '96. I don't scroll.
