I live in Chetek, WI across the street from the fire dept and ambulance service. I sure would like to know what is going on when they get called out. Also need to listen to the PD. Zip code here is 54728. Thank you!

Here is a link to the Barron County database page. https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=3054

If you are interested in just fire and EMS, any type of scanner will work. But if you are like most people, you might well wonder about law enforcement. They are digital, so a digital scanner is needed.

You may ask if they use any type of encryption. That question is best asked in the Wisconsin forum.

Thank you! I ended up getting a Uniden BCD325P2. It took me two days to learn how to program it, but it is up and working well now.

Tronjo - Barron County looks like to be a MIX of Analog VHF & UHF as well as the Law Dispatch is using P25 - A Digital mode. WISCOM is also using P25 Phase I - a Digital mode.
based on that I recommend a Digital Scanner like the Whistler 1080, 1088 or the TRX-1.
happy scanning and Welcome to the RR forum !

You may have already seen this, but if not, it may be easier for you to program your 325P2 by following the instructions here:
Easier to Read BCD325P2 Digital Scanner Manual

Since you are a Premium Subscriber, you can FreeSCAN to download information and program your scanner. Download link is here. The FreeSCAN User Guide is hosted in the Wiki.

That is an excellent scanner! I did a couple videos on them (link in signature below). It is one of my favorite scanners I've had.

I also have that little handheld, and I think it's excellent! You can use Freescan to program it, yes. I use Proscan, which is not free ($50) but it has many more features than Freescan. Also Proscan gives you a generous 30 days to try before you buy. So you can download it, use it to program your scanner, then uninstall it if you're satisfied with what you have going.
