I have had them all: Whistler, Uniden, GRE, Radio Shack. Like my Uniden BCD325P2 the best of any regardless of cost. If I could only have one that would be it.

I have been very happy with my Whistler upgraded 668 and my TRX2. Both of my Pro 652's are great as well, although I am not sure if they would be considered Whistler or GRE.

You may want to evaluate your surroundings. Perhaps your noise floor has changed ? (that does happen). Every new PC, wireless router...etc just gets cheaper and cheaper and throws more junk out into the air. Perhaps your scanner is doing it's job but hearing all the local noise. I have LED monitor that just tears up the 440 ham band for me. I like the monitor, so I am just waiting for it to die, so I tolerate it.

My Pro 668 inside my house is useless on a rubber duck with the noise floor in here. On a outside antenna it does awesome. I just took a trip to the east coast and back with my TRX2 in the rental car, and it did wonderful.

Just a suggestion. Good luck.

I have a Uniden 536HP that is useless, and will not work on an outside antenna due to severe overloading. It sits here with a duckie and will not pick up much at all. Yet my BCT15X works fine on that same outside antenna (and the same system that brings the 536HP to its knees).

It is not a Whistler only thing, as it is also a Uniden thing. Though I did have to pull my WS-1095 from my vehicle as it would not work at all due to overloading. So in the end some models just work better than others and it depends a lot on location.

Just curious what is overloading your scanner. I have a 436 connected to an outdoor ST-2 about 1500 feet from a pager / cell tower, and have minimal issues with interference.

You shouldn't have to have the squelch maxed unless you have a really huge RF noise problem. You can use your scanner to help locate this and hopefully eliminate it. The TRX has a tighter front end than the GRE500 series so if the older scanner wasn't bothered (before it "broke"), something has likely changed and you've got a noise source that wasn't there before.

I'm not sure what you mean by your PSR-500 "broke and won't charge." Will it work on regular batteries? If so you can get an external charger for the rechargeable batteries...safer to charge them externally anyway.

I will agree about noise being the possible culprit. I thought my TRX-1 was deaf on VHF (Couldn’t pick anything up at all). Turns out I tracked it down to a car charger that was unshielded and creating all sorts of ugly noise, soon as I changed that one thing the TRX-1 sprang to life, pulling in and demodulating NXDN systems 30 miles away. heck it pulls in VHF signals from father away than 325P2 and a much better filter too.

Where did you get the charger that was unshielded?

I got them at a truck stop. Just your avg 2 slot 3.1 amp 5 volt charger. But they were the exact source of my reception issues.

As for those unhappy with their 536HP. I own two and both work flawlessly sitting on my bookcase attached to a right angle rubber duck. This configuration allows me to receive and demodulate all the San Antonio/Bexar County Provoice towers within a 30 mile radius. If your having problems with reception, then I would ensure you have the latest firmware updates. And look for some sort of interference close by. As with all things your results may vary depending on location and type of system your trying to monitor( ie x2 Lsm). But it never hurts to make sure you have ruled out all the normal stuff.

What are you plugging it into?

Vehicular cell phone chargers are notoriously noisy. If I plug my cell phone in while my scanner is on, it wipes out my VHF reception.

Very true; running GRE800-pattern HH scanners as mobiles here and I went through quite a selection of USB lighter plug adapters to find ones that didn't spew a whole lot of RF garbage. The dedicated charger that came with my phone can be heard from 50+ feet away from the car if it's plugged in...obviously it collects a lot of dust these days.

I live about a 30 min drive from Whistler HQ and their warehouse. Every time I have taken my Tax-1 or 2 in, they have been great help to me. Not all of the scanners are created equal as some are more sensitive than others. I have a bad sensitivity issue with one TRX 1, and then a keyboard failure issue the next time. Calling them directly and talking with a person is the best way in my experience. Not to defend anyone here but if I received 200 emails per hour, I doubt if I could answer even half of them. Best of luck!

Still broke

Just got me TRX1 back for the second time they seemed to help the static but It will only scan for about one minute then it seems to lick .
It still showes it scanning but nothing until I open another channel then it will work for another min or so.
All I here from Whistler is everything is working as it should
Well if you scanner is only good for a minute or so seems it isn't working as i should
But they will not even consider replacing it they just want me to keep sending it in every few weeks until the warranty is over
Not happy SL Scanner

I would sure like to see the OP follow up on his posts. Been seeing him complaining of issues since about April in various threads and never seems to follow through with anything and just complains about the TRX-1 . There are many here that could probably help him out, if he would just give it a try, most issues with these radios are easily figured out

Lets start kind of from the beginning. Has this TRX been updated with all the latest updates? Did you program the radio with EZScan or directly with the radio?

I will try to help you the best I can as I am not familiar with your area, hopefully some others can help out also.

I would love some one to tell me some things to try to help,

but I get mostly negative response
Thanks anyway

Try being specific as to what the issue is. You don't seem to answer any ones questions.

To me, it sounds like you need to spend a few and get a good charger.
