TRX-1: Not worth the money

I would sure like to see the OP follow up on his posts. Been seeing him complaining of issues since about April in various threads and never seems to follow through with anything and just complains about the TRX-1 . There are many here that could probably help him out, if he would just give it a try, most issues with these radios are easily figured out

I do not know exactly what the OP is talking about so it is hard to know how to help him. I really feel it is user error since Whistler is checking the scanner and it is testing fine but, by this post, I am not sure what guidance to provide no matter how much I'd like to.

As Ed said, share some additional details (systems, settings, etc.) and we'll see what we can do.

Lets start kind of from the beginning. Has this TRX been updated with all the latest updates? Did you program the radio with EZScan or directly with the radio?

I will try to help you the best I can as I am not familiar with your area, hopefully some others can help out also.

It is up to date with the latest firm ware and I use ezScan programming I listen to Motorola 800 system here
I have tried different ways to program it using EZScan all the same . Just not very good

Yes it is the system here Mot 800. I have tried all the ways to upload I do use the EZScan software and import it Not much difference in quality just in what is uploaded in the different ways.

What control channels are programmed for the system you are monitoring?

This should be what is programmed for CC. Usually I only have the the one red CC programmed.

I just did a Import by County for Salt Lake City, it brought in so much stuff, I can almost understand why you are not receiving much. It brings in 5 Trunked systems, 13 Trunked System Sites and 530 Talkgroups. Just the 13 Trunked System Sites would cause the issue of never hearing anything. I think the programming needs to be greatly consolidated. Also I do not even see the main CC at all, that would probably be why you are not hearing anything.

There is probably nothing wrong with the radio at all, it is just in the programming.

Make a new vscanner folder and program it with only what you actually intend on listening to using the "preferred" method under library import. Then enable that vscanner folder in the scanner. If it is better, keep it if not go back to the previous vscanner folder.

I created a system using the Preferred Method for Salt Lake City. However it does not bring in the CC listed in the RR database, I had to manually add the CC in.

I also created a small test system that you can place in TRX folder in the My Documents folder. This will place it in the Vscanner folder. Give this a test try and see if you hear anything.

Just removed all the freq. except for the CC freq. the broadcasting that I am getting does seem to be alot better as far as static. Just wondering if I am getting all the traffic for what I have turned on

If you want to try it.

All you have to do is unzip the file, and place it into the TRX folder in My Documents. copy configuration to Scanner with EZScan, then select the VScanner folder with radio.

However the best way to program the scanner in my opinion is using the Preferred method under Select Import Type you have much better control on what you want to listen to. Just make sure you save your previous setup in a VScanner folder. You can have many different setups and store them in a VScanner folder and use the one that works best.

Also if you have not read this before, this is a good way to learn about the scanner. It pertains to the TRX1 also.

I wish Whistler would let Butel Release software to program there scanners, I really don't understand what they are afraid of. I do know that Butel makes a better scanner software and by letting them release a good programing software wouldnt put whistler out of business

Ok, what don't you like about EZscan? Is there something missing that you would like it to have? Send Whistler an email about it. I believe the link is in one of the stickies. Better luck doing this than wishing for a 3rd party to offer a new program.

Good to hear. All it takes is a asking on here. What antenna are you using? Being that you are monitoring in the 800mhz range, it might help out to get a different antenna.

As long as your scanner is working better, you may not need that file I provided earlier. It has to be Extracted first by right clicking on it, then place it into the TRX Folder in Documents, then Copy Configuration with EZScan, and then call up the Vscanner folder.

You can give it a try. The file is in post #66. I know it works, because I just tried it again. He has to Extract the file and open it up to get the CDAT_VS.005 and just place it the TRX folder in Documents, Copy it to Scanner and open up the VScanner folder or open with EZScan.

I did notice there were a few extra scan list activated. They are the ones if I had Location turned on, so those will be empty and will need to be turned off.

It is just a small Test setup For Salt Lake City. I wanted him to try it to see if her received anything, but we figured out it was his CC with his setup. For some reason the Import brings in a bunch of channels and the CC listed on RR, the red one, is not even included in the import
