Hopefully this works. It's a 20 second recording of the 9++ hash on 40. What do you think?

40 meter noise

Almost sounds like a BPL network with low / no network activity. I would really love to see the waveform on a spectrum analyzer.

Additional thought: Does your power company use smart meters?

The nice thing about the 1026 is that you don't have to identify it - just phase it out! :)

I have the bpl issue and it does not sound like that - neighbors running ac-line ethernet to drive their satellite boxes. The thing is, the amateur bands are actually notched out, which is ok I guess, but totally killed any SWL unless I go to these extremes. You can tell by going merely 100 khz or so out of the amateur bands and back to S9 noise. Some overseas gear may not have this notching.

I also have a smart-meter and it is not noisy.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to the file. It does not matter what mode I am in, it's always the same noise level. I'm in the process of installing a hex beam. I can only hope that somehow a new installation magically helps. I'm at a loss.

Thanks again.
