Anyone else notice more garbled sounds on their trunked digital scanner lately? Do these systems have a setting that makes transmissions come through scrambled so even a digital scanner can’t decode them?

I’ve got a Whistler 1040 that was preprogrammed for me in 2021. Recently, I’ve been hearing way more garbling/“Charlie Brown teacher”–like sounds on trunked channels. I thought it might be outdated frequencies, so I wiped everything and reprogrammed it myself with updated info—but the garbling is still there.

Sometimes the same frequency will be clear, and other times it’s scrambled. If they can scramble transmissions, why not just do it for all of them?

Sounds like a simulcast issue. Post a database link to the system you’re listening to.

Welcome to RR.

You probabaly want to go to your location and then first read and then ask about the specific system you are having issues with.

It would help to know the system you are monitoring. If you used programming software, please attach your file so we can take a look at it. I have ARC500, Win500, and PSREdit500. You will need to zip the file to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and open the zipped file.

Echoing posts above. Please reply back with specific system(s) so we can get eyes on the RRDB to help you troubleshoot

Knowing nothing about frequency(ies) or system specifics I'll venture a guess and say partial encryption (would be denoted as mode De, Te, P25e, DMRe or NXDNe. Small e = partial encryption, uppercase "E" = full encryption

Thanks for the replies everyone. I’m going to ask around in the Michigan forums. Go ahead and close the thread here if that’s necessary.
