All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi all,
I've been wanting to do some sensitivity measurements on a few portables here, and have been wondering if there's any alternative to the >$70 adaptor for the threaded antenna connector (does it have a name BTW?) to a more standard SMA/BNC/TNC connection.

Well I had an idea. After receiving an 'excess to requirements' elevated feed 800 MHz antenna, I cut off the rubber coating to find that its basically just a coax dipole inside. Usinga hacksaw, cut off the brass tube all the way through near the top (ie the 'centre' of the dipole), pull off the brass tube and you'll find there is a tail of mini-teflon coax going to the threaded connector of the antenna. Just reterminate the coax tail with a connector of your choice. I went for a BNC type suited for the mini-teflon coax size. Works well, and much cheaper than the correct adaptor.

Oh. Very unimaginative of them. So I guess we just call that connecter the MA-Com/Tyco connector then?
Nothing as 'universal' like BNC, TNC, DIN etc. Guess you've all heard it before: "the great thing about standards is: there's so many to choose from!"

I've fabricated a few custom adapters which replace the existing antenna connector on a P7100 and provide a BNC connection. I use the existing connector and modify it, in part by drilling out the antenna
threads and rethreading it to accept a screw-in BNC panel connector. It's best done by someone who has
a lathe and the right thread tap. But it's not difficult to do.

Their advantage is (presumably) lower loss and greater reliability when you need the radio to have
a BNC connector for connection to an external antenna all the time.
