Hello,

I'm looking to purchase a RS Pro106 Digital Scanner to monitor the Providence & Cranston Police and Fire Departments. According to my research this is the scanner that I need, however, because I am a novice I am seeking the advise of veteran users.

Thank you,

Hello Engineerguy, welcome to RadioReference. :)
Definitely the scanner that you will need for RISCON.
Consider also purchasing a programming cable and checking out WIN96 programming on trial .

I have Pro 106 and works good for me. Definitely get the cable and software much easier to program. I myself program mine by hand but that's for me. It can be very tidious.

Win96 does not work with the Pro-106. You can check out ARC500, Win500 or PSRedit500- all 3 have trial periods that you can use to check out the software. They're all linked from here... (all links are blue)

Also you will need a USB to serial cable to connect to the PC. This article lists the known models that are compatible and specific tips on how to load the drivers...
