• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Im primarily a Moto tech but had a customer donated a box full of the NX-1200DVK2 to a local department after they upgraded and swapped from v to u.
I am running KPG-d6n ver 3.4 using a KGG-22u cable that works on older models. I have an aftermarket serial cable from KAWAMALL that also works on older radio models with no issues. Verified both last week with the other radios. TK series.

My PC is running windows 11 pro on a Tough Book FZ-55. I have tried multiple radios out of the box with both cables. I keep getting an error " Ensure all connections between the transceiver and the PC are in place and the com port setting are correct. Then turn the transceiver off and on".

I have tried playing with my com port settings by trying to lower the TX and RX buffers. My serial cable is com 1 and the usb is com 9. Both set to 9600 N 8 1. Similar error when attempting to load firmware ver D2.32.00 that I downloaded tonight. Also tried to run as admin and in compatibility modes. Mic jacks are clean and I even tried flexing the cable in case the mic jack was loose on the board like on some of the Moto CP200 and PR400s

Serial number are in the C22 to C37 range. I am about to the point of trying to find my old 25 pin cable and try it. Any ideas before I reach out to Kenwood???
Thanks for any assistance

Latest driver
That appears to be what I was running. Had 3 older versions on the pc. I manually replaced but same error. Beginning to think there may be something with the cables and this model. I still have the old db25 pin cables back at the office. May give it a try when I get back in or order a new oem cable to try. The serial one will change and show programming mode for a second or 2 when trying to update the FW but then goes to no sys. The usb will not get to that point. Thanks for trying to help.

I have a 22um for years and worked on 10 and 11.
You say your trying to update the firmware.
1 what is the label on the radio
2 what firmware are you pushing

This gives me the notion that you are trying to push either dmr, or nxdn to the opposite of the radios current activated mode.

cable is a 22U not a UM. Radio model on the label is NX-1200DVK2. Can not read the radio or firmware update with either cable I have at home.
I have downloaded NX-1000_series_portable_updater_d23200.exe directly from our Kenwood account online. Also tried the T version of the firmware just for the heck of it. Even tried to read the radio config in the license manager. Nothing talks to these radios. Beginning to think both of my cables are bad. Just tried reading a tk3312 and same errors with both cables

D232 is the lates fw for the DVK models.
Fair enough. You could order the cable from Bluemax49ers or since you stated you have MYTOOLS access, just order a new 22um.

Ended up with 3 different bad cables. New one from Amazon worked perfect. Thanks again for trying to help.

I had the same problem programming NX-1300AU radios on my Windows 11 laptop. You'll need to download older Virtual COM port drivers

I had this same problem programming NX-1300AU-K radios on a Windows 11 Laptop. The solution is to install older Virtual Com Port Drivers (CP210x) the driver can be found at CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP Drivers - Silicon Labs use the "Universal Windows Driver". Good Luck
