If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

NX-5000 Audio Startup

This has probably been covered before, but I couldn't find it. I have 4 NX-5000 mobiles and every time I start them up I have to hit a button on the heads or switch decks before audio comes out of the speakers. I've tried switching the speakers in the KPG but to no avail.

Has anyone heard of this problem before? Anyone know how to set it so I don't have to hit a button on the head?

Thanks!

This has been reported to Kenwood, but no resolve yet. I have his issue on both portables and mobiles.

AF1UD, I have never heard of or experienced that audio issue you mention. I have had zero audio issues with any of my radios.

Sent you the latest Josh.
I updated the firmware but I still get a "static" noise coming through the front facing speaker on the unit until I hit a button which engage the speaker...

Unfortunately the firmware update doesn't seem to have solved the problem.

Josh has a file from Kenwood that has a startup tone (power up) and that appears to have fixed the minor issue.
He will advise when he gets a chance to update this thread. (I am on the emails between him, kenwood and myself)

And now for the conclusion...

I recently met up some of my FF buddies who also have the NX-5000 series. When they turn them on, they have the startup tone and the audio just works. The codeplug I got from Kenwood had the same thing.

I removed the startup tone because I didn't really care for it for shack use. However, when the radio pushes out the signal it finds the speaker in the control head without the button pressing. Even with the latest firmware and the correct head selected it still couldn't find speaker and the head without a button press...

I wrote a fast and quiet start up tone and when I turn on the NX-5800 and NX-5700 the audio comes right on without me needing to interact with the head.

What did you use for a fast/quite startup tone?

I'm going to be updating the programming in my radios soon, and want to try this to see if it fixes this for the mobile where I have a startup pin (the last used head works fine, but have to cycle to the other head to get audio from it).

I used a low hz tone with the smallest amount of time. It does the trick! Sounds like a low boop when it comes on, and the speakers work without any other button pressing!
