• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

How difficult would it be for Kenwood to allow more 2-tone decode sets within a single transceiver, or even allow 4 sets per system? Seems crazy to me that these radios can hold up to 4,000 channels but they can only hold 4 2-tone decode sets.

New genuine USB cable is really fast. Looks like it works not on 115kbps speed or something, looks like it runs on 512..1024kbps. And it does matter even you have just one radio. Here is what I see with my NX5K: 5 minutes vs 30 seconds.

And YES, I also noticed that 1.71 SW allows to insert zone at the end OR wherever you want. So, we see some very slow progress with programming software. I am pretty sure that it's absolutely possible to implement zone move, zone merge, zone copy/paste, programming data import/export, etc., and we will see these features sometimes.

From Kenwood to me; Ref ZONE ADD CHECK MARK BUG.

Hi Evans
Thank you for your email
I have verified the zone add check box;
If you un-check a zone add box and make new zones the check mark in the zone add should be blank it should not be checked when you add more zones.

I will be in touch I need to write it up and submit it.

Thank you

Their response very funny. We know how it must work, but how about Kenwood? I sent info about this bug more than 6 mo ago. Nobody replied.

How does the high speed cable compare to Bluetooth writing when referring to speeds?

Not knowing what chip set is in you cable, and more than likely it is a KPG-46UM knock off.... I will

say it will be about the same a serial cable.

The XM cable switched to UART mode from USB mode, this can shove the info in at 115200 or 128000.

I don't have the spec speed, but I do know this, $125 well spent in my book Then again,

no it does NOT speed up the NX-x00, x20, or any other TK/NX radio before the NX-5000.

*Side Note, I am told it does the same fast high speed with the TK's used by KPG-D1 also.

I just acquired an NX5800 so i am looking at doing a dual-deck setup (NX5700/5800).
Is the multi-deck RX firmware option required or will this configuration still operate with multiple decks without simultaneous RX?
Long term goal is to add the additional FW features as budget allows.

Mark, I think your slightly off, email me via my gmail, with your name Myer and I'll see if you have the right stuff to multi deck first.

Found the answer to my own question finally, if anyone is looking for a radio case to be used with a radio strap i found this site that makes them, only place I've found so far. The case isn't on their website yet because they haven't updated but they do make a case for both full and limited keypad.

For the portables auto backlight feature is available, in the software it lists backlight when PTT press, key operation, and ID/Message operation. Regarding ID/Message operation does this mean when receiving something like a 2-tone, or will the backlight come on with RX audio?

You know I thought the same thing, but it turns on for everything except getting a regular voice message. The moto xpr 5550 lights up for just a general voice message. I wish they would add that so it would light up while receiving a normal message...

Maybe someone else on here can put a good word in to Kenwood, doesn't seem like it would be that hard to change

With the lever switch on the portable being 2 positions the software allows you to program a function for each position. How does it work if the function programmed is a on/off function such as scan? For example normally if a key is programmed for scan, you would press the key to start the scan, and to stop scanning you would press the same key again. With the function switch if I set position A to scan, I would assume you'd have to program position B without a function this way when you switch to position B scanning stops, am I understanding this correctly? With the scan scenario wouldn't the "2 function switch" become a single function switch?

The lever is two function still, scan on, scan off.

So you would only program A or B to scan or do you program both to scan?

NX-5700 Mobile scanning issue

I saw a couple older threads involving questions about scanning issues where the mobile radio would freeze up on a P25 channel. My mobile radio will be scanning and I'll notice it goes silent and there will be a unit id number froze on the screen and the radio doest resume scanning. Was there a answer found for this problem???

I've never seen that. I scan a lot of channels including P25 trunking and conventional.

Is there anything special that is needed inside the computer besides Bluetooth capability? I have a Mac running parallels with Windows 10 and I'd like to use the Bluetooth programming feature will this work?
