• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello All!

Our shop has received an NX-5900 for service. Customer States the radio randomly reboots/restarts and when it does restart there is not a turn on beep like during normal power on. I have confirmed and witnessed the issue several times. I have narrowed it down, with this forums help, to the Auto Recording being turned on. With this option unchecked, the radio no longer reboots or restarts and all is well. There is no microSD card being used. Customer does use this feature for recording and playback. Have upgraded firmware from 5.01.00 to 5.13.00, but the issue persists. I never saw a fix for this issue in searching more of the forum. Has anyone found a resolution for this exact problem? More insight is welcomed!

Don

You could try changing the record time on the internal storage also.

maybe, if possible just to test roll firmware BACK instead of forward to say 4.6 and see what it does

No tech support submitted yet, will ask higher ups in the office.

Record time choice was 30 or 60 seconds, both had same issue.

Haven't tried rolling back firmware yet, I can try it. Have seen posts with older firmware with similar reboot complaint.

Sounds like an issue we had with NX-5300 portables. I think Kenwood claimed there was faulty onboard memory or something. They weren't specific. It went from FTH to Kenwood factory for repair. Don't expect transparency from Kenwood.

I have issues with the NX-5700/5800 doing reboots for up to 20 minutes. I am however using the 3 ref units with one control head option. sometimes happens when turning on and sometimes when switching from one rf unit to another, sometimes when turning on/off scan.

Sorry for no updates. Customer wanted radio back in service and was OK with record being turned off. Has been back in service for a couple of weeks without reboot issue. FYI, different older firmware versions did not make a difference, all still showed reboot issue. Thanks for the replies.
